When I was a child, VBS was a highlight of the year, and I have fond memories of those days. Not only was it fun, but during that week I learned some important truths that have kept me grounded as a Christian.
We just finished a week of adventures on the High Seas at our church, and it was a wonderful time for children - of all ages. Although methods and music and the energy level have changed, the truths we teach have not.
Each night one simple but powerful truth was highlighted and reinforced in everything we did. I believe the boys and girls will remember these facts:
God's Word is true.
God's Word is comforting.
God's Word is powerful.
God's Word is life-changing.
God's Word is surprising.
God's Word is comforting.
God's Word is powerful.
God's Word is life-changing.
God's Word is surprising.
Very Basic Stuff . . . VBS! Stuff that gives us roots and anchors our souls . . . stuff that will hold us steady on the sometimes-stormy high seas of life . . . the kind of stuff that we don't "outgrow" and never changes.
I say "Hooray!" for VBS!
I say "Hooray!" for VBS!
Words of Life, words of hope -
Give us strength, help us cope.
In this world, where e'er we roam,
Ancient words will guide us home.
CHORUS:
Ancient words ever true -
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts;
Oh let the ancient words impart.
(This was one of my favorite songs we sang this week.)
Give us strength, help us cope.
In this world, where e'er we roam,
Ancient words will guide us home.
CHORUS:
Ancient words ever true -
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts;
Oh let the ancient words impart.

We are doing the same one at our church this summer. Looks like a cute one!
Memories of my VBS days return and now I have grands attending!! Beautiful!
I love VBS! When we were little, we would attend at several churches during the summer. There wasn't much else to do in the country. Thank goodness, that is how we had fun! Carla
Amen!!! Reminds me of the song we sang a few years ago at VBS..."I'm gonna say y-y-y-y-yes to v-v-v-vbs!! :) Thanks for all your help this week!
Is this one of your VBS posters? It's cute. Our church is doing something very different this year for VBS. We are calling it XX Games, like the summer olympics. And it will be every Wednesday evening for the next six weeks. I kind of like that, as it spreads the learning out over the summer. Ours starts on the 16th, because school hasn't let out yet here. You were one of the teachers?
Hi Glenda, I spent many years participating and directing Vacation Bible Schools. I have some great memories.
Hugs,
Betsy
what a great song ...
I do love VBS. I have very fond memories of directing our programs for years. It is a LOT of work but so worth it.
I used to take my kids to every VBS in town each summer. Yippee. Something good to do on summer vacation
