I'll cross that bridge when I get to it . . .

I often find myself trying to cross bridges that are out ahead of me.

I have an idea some of you know what I'm talking about . . . and so you know how draining that is - emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Too late I realize that all my stewing and worrying and planning and trying to figure things out "sensibly" never move me ahead one inch! Sometimes I simply get ahead of God. And that means I'm not letting Him BE God in my life.

But He's teaching . . . and I'm trying to be a better student, a better listener, a better follower. Life is just too short and precious to wrap myself up in a blanket of worry and fear! Why should I even want to do that when He offers me His hand to hold and His loving arms around me? Lord, help me . . .

Tomorrow's bridge is a dangerous thing;
I dare not cross it now.
I can see its timbers sway and swing,
And its arches reel and bow.
O heart, you must hope alway;
You must sing and trust and say:
"I'll bear the sorrow that comes tomorrow,
But I'll borrow none today."

~copied from Streams in the Desert~

Jesus will walk with me; He will talk with me.
In joy or in sorrow, today and tomorrow,
I know He will walk with me.

This is especially for me! I pray and tell God I'm turning it all over to him, but at times we just can't resist jumping in to help, can we? I have done just that with a major life decision. And I hope I haven't interfered with God's plans TOO much, us humans are just an impatient bunch, aren't we? Your quotes are dizzyingly beautiful, they spoke to me. I copied them and am going to record them for our church prayer line. I don't know better than God and have to remember that!

You could be talking about me! Great post!

I think we all tend to want to 'do it ourselves", instead of following God's lead. Following requires a lot of patience, and we want things fixed NOW!

LOVE this! I had just read that devotional out loud to Philip as we were driving to Jenni's yesterday morning. SO true! And, as always, I love your photo!

Hi Glenda, You are so right. We often try to cross bridges we don't need to. Thank you for this post. Wishing you a good weekend.

I think this is for me! I do cross to many bridges that I never have to cross....if that makes sense :)

Oh yes, I have the same issues at times and want to fuss over things that are not probably ever going to happen... Thank God He knows best!!!

I too am learning (closely but surely) to lean on God and not get ahead of His plans. It is not an easy thing to do.

I am the same way - trying to figure things out by myself and make things happen.

Halder Lillenas - what an amazing writer her was. Sad that we don't sing his songs much any more!

Loved the last line ' But will borrow none today' . Worries of tomorrow should be left for tomorrow only . Uncertainty gives rise to worries but can't we live with little uncertainty ? Living with certainty always isn't very interesting right?! Little suspense of tomorrow should be a driving force for you to live.

Glenda,
Thank you for this encouraging posting. I too get ahead of God sometimes and need to be reminded "in His time." Thanks for this word of hope for today.

Beautiful post on the same thing Jesus said when He told us not to worry about tomorrow . . . each day has enough trouble on its own.
Thank you for this reminder . .. I need it again and again, in spite of the fact that I know that worry does not help at all.
